Brazilian Jiu-jitsu: “The Human Chess Game”

Jiu-Jitsu started in Japan over 3600 years ago. This martial art was created within the Samurai’s schools, by the elite warriors from Japan. They developed a technique where their own body was used as leverage to take down or neutralize bigger opponents. When the immigration to Europe and American countries increased in the 20th century, this unique art started to conquer the world. Before then it was a crime with death punishment to teach jiu-jitsu to people from outside of Japan because it was considered a war secret. Jiu-jitsu means “The Gentle Art” because it is a fighting technique based on self-defense, intelligence and strategy not having to use a lot of physical strength to defeat your opponents. “Give in to win” by leveraging the other person’s strength against themselves. Intelligence and strategy being the most important skills demanded for the practice, jiu-jitsu became known as “The Human Chess Game”. A game where it’s necessary to use logic, memory, focus, quick thinking and the right timing for decision making to win against your opponent. This martial art goes beyond the human bodily skills, the most important part in Jiu-jitsu is most definitely the human brain.
